Introduction
The aesthetics in Poi Ching Primary is one that is very vibrant and engaging. With the intention to bring about a generation of arts-savvy students, we provide our pupils with an avenue of a broad-based education that develops capacities for creative and critical thinking. The programmes in PCS have been customised not only to equip our pupils with the relevant expertise and experience; more importantly, it aims to ensure that they fully enjoy the learning process. We also believe that this is an important avenue that can build confidence, create greater awareness of themselves, improve their self-esteem, develop and sustain their interest in learning, instill independence and bring out their potential.
Progressive Art Modules for mastery of art elements are carefully planned and aligned to support the MOE objectives of promoting Art Awareness, Appreciation and Discussion. The innovative ‘STAR’ (Synthesis Through Art Reach) project is implemented to all P3 and P4 pupils for the development of critical thinking and art discussion.Art galleries of famous artist works are established to promote art awareness and appreciation. Good art works are showcased in the school compound and at various art exhibitions. Art lessons infusing ICT & NE values are also carried out.
Performing art programmes at PCS include both the instrumental and movement/ dance education. These aim to promote creativity, the desire for personal and group expression and instilling a life-long love for the arts.
Being a SAP school, the understanding and exposure to Chinese Culture is essential. Thus, learning of Chinese Art and Music elements are inevitable (Please refer to the table above for other modules in place). All Poi Ching pupils will be able to play at least three instruments confidently at the end of the six years education, including a Chinese instrument.
Year end concert is organised to provide a platform for our pupils to showcase their talents and bolster music and dance education efforts in the school. Pupils also get a chance to perform and express their talents during various exchange programmes, festive celebrations and assembly periods.
Pupils also embark on learning journeys to art museums, concerts and are encouraged to participate in competitions.
With the programmes in place and the dedication of the teachers to educate, identify and develop the students in the field of the arts, PCS is certainly working towards being a premier SAP school of world class standard.
